Project School Visit:
St. Joseph Catholic School (Cambridge)

Visit sponsored by: Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation

On October 21, 2003 we visited St. Joseph Catholic School with one of our peregrine falcons.  Below is a letter we received from the school.

On Tuesday, October 21, 2003 Ms. Maya Basdeo and her feathered friend, Ariel, visited St. Joseph School in Cambridge.  Maya the 'marvelous' gave two awesome forty-five minute presentations to our junior division. Maya's enthusiastic demeanor, knowledge of her subject area and ease of dealing with students made her presentation a success.

The resources used in Maya's presentation were excellent.  The video, "Life on the Ledge', gave the students a look at the habitat, food chain and characteristics of flight of the Peregrine falcon.  These topic areas fit well with the grade 4 unit on Habitats and Communities and the grade 6 unit on the Diversity of Living Things.  As well, the Students Guide to Ontario's Endangered Species will be well used by our grade 6 students during their study of Life Systems.  Finally, Ariel was the highlight of Maya's presentation.  The students were in awe of her beauty and her mannerisms (bopping of her head).

Thank you to the Lloyd Carr-Harris Foundation for providing the sponsorship for this wonderful program.  Thank you also to Maya and the Canadian Peregrine Foundation for choosing our school to visit this year.  We hope you will be able to visit our school again next year.

Sincerely,

Junior Division Teachers
