Project School Visit:
Devine Street Public School (Sarnia)

Visit sponsored by: Friends of the Environment Foundation

In January 2003, we visited Sarnia's Devine Street Public School with one of our peregrine falcons.  Below is a letter from the school and drawings from the students:

The purpose of this letter is to give feedback and thoughts on the Canadian Peregrine Foundation Project School Visit and thank the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for the funding.

The school visit to Devine Street Public School in Sarnia on January 22, 2003 was very well received.  The presenter, Maya Basdeo was excellent.  She was able to gain and retain the students' attention, and the students' responses to her questioning at the end of the presentation certainly demonstrated their attentiveness.

The Peregrine school visit led to several classroom activities.  The links with the science curriculum were very positive.  The video, which was given to our school at the end of the presentation, allowed the teachers to explore these links in greater depth.  The presentation led to various cross curricular activities such as drawing falcons in their habitat as part of the art programme.  The presentation was very enjoyable and led to several links with the curriculum.

The Peregrine school visit to Devine Street School in Sarnia was well documented by the local media.  A large article with colour photographs in the local newspaper, The Observer, as well as a segment by the television station CKCO were very positive for our school and students, as well as for the Canadian Peregrine Foundation.

The Canadian Peregrine Foundation Project School Visit was a very positive experience for our school.  On behalf of our students and staff, I thank you for providing such an excellent opportunity for our students.

Sincerely,

Mrs Lounsbury - Principal
