Project School Visit:
Dickson Public School (Cambridge)

Visit sponsored by: Friends of the Environment Foundation

In March 2001, we visited Dickson Public School in Cambridge, with our two-year-old male peregrine falcon "Scotty".  Below are some comments from the school:

Thank you so much to Friends of the Environment for sponsoring the visit of Kelly and her falcon friend to our two junior classes on Friday afternoon (March 2).  The children were enthralled.

Everything Kelly talked about fit in so nicely with our Grade Four Life Systems strand of the Science and Technology Curriculum.  In the fall we had studied habitats and communities and so, the children were already familiar with habitat requirements, food chains, communities, etc.  We had even had a field trip to an outdoor education centre where we did a Bird Study for the day.  So, as you can imagine, your falcon visit provided an excellent review for them.  I was impressed by how well they could answer Kelly's questions and in turn, ask questions of her that indicated their concern for the plight of endangered species.

I would highly recommend this visitation program to any other Grade Four class in Ontario.  My one wish would be that the visit could have been longer.  Please continue to visit the classrooms.  The children need this form of real-life education.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Marjorie Brown
