Project School Visit:
Ferndale Public School (St. Catharines)

Visit sponsored by: Friends of the Environment Foundation

In February 2001, we visited Ferndale Public School in St. Catharines with our two-year-old peregrine falcon "Scotty".  We haven't received any feedback from the students, but here is a letter from one of the teachers, and another from the principal:

On Thursday, February 1, 2001, we were fortunate to have David Pfeffer do a presentation at our school, Ferndale, in St. Catharines. There were three sessions and there were 80 students in each session. It was extremely informative and the students learned a lot. The feedback from teachers was all positive. The resource booklet was well received. Some teachers plan on using it as it fits right in with the curriculum. The students enjoyed the full version of the video, especially the grade 7's. One girl in a special needs class in grade 5 started her speech research today on the peregrine falcon. I would like to thank the Foundation and its sponsor for such a worthwhile visit to our school.

Sincerely,

Sandra Sitak, Teacher/Librarian and coordinator of the visit.

On behalf of the students at Ferndale, I want to thank the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and the sponsors that supported the school visit program for the presentation we recently enjoyed.  We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to help our students learn more about these fascinating birds, and to meet a live peregrine on Thursday, February 1st.

The young man who did the presentation to our students from grades 4 to 7 did an excellent job in presenting the information at a level which they could understand and enjoy.  He was surprised at the depth of knowledge about the peregrine that many students already had.  The students, no doubt, gained an even greater appreciation of the challenge and necessity to do all we can to help endangered species in Ontario.

Once again, thank you for this opportunity and all the best in your endeavours on behalf of the peregrine falcon.

Sincerely,

M. Arghittu
Principal
