Project School Visit:
Hillcrest Public School (Woodstock)

Visit sponsored by: Friends of the Environment Foundation

In February 2001, we visited Woodstock's Hillcrest Public School with our nine-year-old female peregrine falcon "Ariel".  Below are some comments from the school:

On February 26, our school had the privilege of having David Pfeffer make a presentation to our junior students about the harmful effects environmental changes have on our endangered species.

The students were captivated by David's expertise.   He portrayed an excellent teaching manner, encouraging students to reflect, respond, and question.  He adapted his questions and discussion to suit his audience, relating the material to the curriculum.  This was a great follow-up to the grade four unit on habitats, providing real life examples of how humans can affect the natural world and the survival of certain species.

The students enjoyed the opportunity to see Ariel and were very attentive as David explained various features of the falcon.  They were eager to create a drawing.

Special thanks to the Canada Trust Friends of the Environment Foundation for sponsoring our school and allowing our students to participate in this program.  What an excellent learning experience!

Thank you for the excellent resources provided for the school.

Sincerely,

Hillcrest School Staff
