Project School Visit:
Our Lady of Peace Catholic School (Maple)

Visit sponsored by: TD Friends of the Environment Foundation

In October 2001, we visited Maple's Our Lady of Peace School with our red-tailed hawk "Eric".  We have not yet received any feedback from the students, but here is a letter from the school:

The staff and students of Our Lady of Peace Catholic School would like to take this opportunity to thank you, the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and TD Canada Trust for a most insightful presentation on endangered species specifically the Peregrine Falcon.

The presentation was well prepared and delivered.  The presenter put all students and staff at ease around Eric the red-tailed hawk.  The presenter was well informed on predatory birds.  Students learned first hand about habitats, eating and migratory patterns of these great birds of prey.  He spoke clearly and related to the students in all three junior grades.

This program available through TD Canada Trust is an excellent learning experience for all students.  It greatly enhances the science curriculum but also helps students realize the delicate balances between the natural environment and the expansion of construction of new homes and suburbs.  We take this opportunity to thank TD Canada Trust for without their sponsorship we would have missed this once in a lifetime opportunity.  It is through
this sponsorship that the majority of our students learn to understand the importance of protecting our wildlife, and how our choices affect all living things around us.
It is our hope that TD Canada Trust continues to sponsor this program so that more people can be reached and educated as we were.

Sincerely,
Mrs. F. Porcelli
