Project School Visit:
Saint Peter Catholic School (Kingston)

Visits sponsored by:  TD Friends of the Environment Foundation

In May 2002, we returned to Saint Peter Catholic School in Kingston with our female peregrine falcon "Penny".  Below is a letter from the school:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for arranging the presentation by the Canadian Peregrine Foundation at St. Peter Catholic School on Friday May 3, 2002.  The presentation was enjoyed by all staff and students who attended from Grades 2-8.  The falcon was very popular for students who rarely see wild birds up close.

The presentation came at a very appropriate time, as we had just completed a week of activities to acknowledge "Earth Week" at the end of April.  The presentation also highlighted some of the science expectations from the Ontario curriculum.  The video and the student books were well received in classrooms after the presentation.

Once again, on behalf of the staff and students at St. Peter Catholic School, thank you for arranging the presentation for us during Catholic Education week at St. Peter's.

Thank you for your visit.

Sincerely,

Karen Moran
Acting Principal

In January 2001, we visited Kingston's Saint Peter Catholic School with our two-year-old male peregrine falcon "Scotty".  Below are some comments from the school:

On Friday, January 19th, Scotty the Peregrine Falcon was a visitor to our school.  All of the students were able to meet Scotty and his handler David.  The children and staff were in awe during the presentation.  Scotty was definitely the centre of attention and David was excellent in his delivery of information for our students.  The value of the visit is immeasurable and I would highly recommend this experience.  The children are continuing to ask questions and their parents have remarked about the interest level at home.

On behalf of the St. Peter's community I would like to thank the Canadian Peregrine Foundation and their sponsors for making this visit available to our students.  It is our hope that next year we may be able to have a follow up visit.  it is this type of learning experience that children remember best.

Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maryanne Bullock
Principal
