!!! Very sad news to report from the Toronto Sheraton Hotel nest site :-(

April 04, 2019 - Toronto - Sheraton Centre

Mark Nash Reports:

April 2nd-2019
After talking to Linda yesterday, and comparing our notes, it appears that we have both come up with the same conclusions based on our observations over the past weeks.

Sadly, it would appear that the Toronto Sheraton nest has in fact been void of any peregrine activity for some time,, (for several months now) and currently there is absolutely no evidence of any recent activity on the nest ledge :-(

My latest visit down to the Toronto Sheraton while in an effort to get the camera back on line, yielded some pretty dismal and disturbing results for any sightings of any birds themselves or any evidence of any activity on the nest ledge itself!

Very sad news indeed, as the Toronto Sheraton hotel nest has been an active producing peregrine nest site each and every year since 1997,, and is (or was up until now) one of southern Ontario’s oldest active producing peregrine nest sites!!

As for the city of Toronto,, and the Toronto Sheraton centre hotel,, the peregrines first arrived on their roof top and attempted to nest way back in 1994-1995 season!! Then they changed locations and moved to the 18 king Street location later that year,, only to return back to the Toronto Sheraton hotel on the nest ledge where they have been actively producing offspring ever since!!

We will continue to closely monitor the nest site and ledge, as you all know, things can change quite quickly in the peregrine world,, and although the nest cam is down,, we will continue our efforts to get it back up and running so we have a visual of the ledge itself on a daily basis!

Stay tuned……..

On a brighter note,,, see observation reports from the old Toronto King Street nest site at 18 King Street….. something is going on there again!!!
