Let’s go Raptors!!!! Kawhi is ready to fly!!!

June 13, 2019 - Kitchener - CTV-Bell Media Tower

Lisa Reh Reports:

It’s been a great start to the fledge watch this week! We held a training session on Tuesday night. Thanks to everyone for coming out and welcome new fledge watchers!!

Yesterday Kellie, Heather and I were out from about 8:00-9:30 p.m. A lot of flapping was going on. Mystery was out of sight for most of the watch until Heather discovered her on the north side of the CTV tower. A package was brought in by M2 (Mystery Male) and passed it off to Mystery in mid-air at dusk. The kids showed lots of excitement and made lots of vocalizations. Both parents were really upset about something in front of the hospital as they swooped around that area a number of times. We weren’t sure what they were so angry about perhaps something on the roof or in the tree out front, we weren’t able to determine what was upsetting them. They were well fed that day as they had at least 3 feeds. Kellie was interviewed by CTV. You can see the clip here:

Today, Kellie also reported at 4:10 that two of the kids were playing tug o’ war on the webcam with a food package (probably Hemera and Jupiter who each had a foot full of talons on it), while Kawhi was on the porch flapping away. They had at least 2 feeds this afternoon.

I headed over to the site just before 8:00 p.m. and wasn’t disappointed as within minutes of my arrival, one of the parents came in with dinner and prepped dinner on one of the rectangular, white antennas facing the hospital. After it was prepped, it was then brought it into the nest box for the youngsters. The other parent was on the tower as well while the kids made lots of noise! Make some noise Raptors!!!

All this time, Kawhi was on the platform to the right of the box!!! He then made it all the way around to the left side around the back of the box and hopped back on the platform while Hemera and Jupiter were fed. Mystery(?) flew out with some of the morsel for herself and landed on King’s Towers. And just as I was about to leave at 8:30 one of the adults flew off the tower, at lightning speed, after a vulture flying over the parking lot between CTV and Kings Towers. The other parent was eating on the corner of the Kings Towers antenna. The vulture was dive bombed about 5 times before he flew away. The 2 kids on the nest box watched while Kawhi was on the platform perched off the edge doing his own thing. I turned on the webcam when I came home and Kawhi was back in the box again. They were all nestled together as it’s a cold but exciting night!!!

Go Raptors Go!!!!!
